There is hope …
Imagine a country where everything works as it should. Living standards up, rather than down. Crimes solved, criminals caught. Ambulances that arrive. Schools that aren’t crumbling around our children’s ears. Our waters free of sewage. Mortgages, rents and food prices not going through the roof.
There’s a clear choice at this election
There will be a new government elected this week. Do you want more chaos and division with the Tories, or stability and hope with Labour?
It’s time to turn the page and start to rebuild. It’s time for change. Labour has set out its five missions in Government: a strong economy, NHS back on its feet, clean energy, world-class education, and more police.
A vote for Labour is a vote for power over protest.
We have a chance for a Labour MP here as part of a majority Labour government and that means we can roll up our sleeves and get on with the change the country is crying out for.
Do you want an MP on the opposition benches who ‘calls for’ this or that? Or do you want an MP with direct input to how the government’s programmes are shaped?
A vote for Labour is a vote for an MP in the service of Ely & East Cambridgeshire
Many people feel that the decisions that affect their community are taken by others who live miles away and have little empathy with their challenges.
Labour is clear. We need a Britain once more in the service of working people. Country first, party second.
I am here to serve. I have lived here for 20 years. My campaign is focused on the positive change that Labour can bring.
What about getting the Tories out?
There have been a lot of MRP polls trying to forecast the results all showing the parties are close to each other locally. This once solid Tory area is now a three-way marginal. A seat where you can truly vote with your heart.
MRP polls map national surveys on to local characteristics. They have variously put the major parties in any order you can think of. When MRP predictions are compared with actual polling in seats, then Ipsos Mori has been the most accurate. They say Con 35%, Labour 28%, Lib Dem 19%.
We need a better voting system …
Having to second guess who other voters are supporting or vote for the party you least dislike is no basis for democracy. I fully support PR and I have pledged to join the Labour for Electoral Reform group if elected. We cannot restore faith in democracy without it and, if elected, this will be one of my priorities.
Change will only happen if you vote for it.
The Labour Party has changed and now we’re ready to change the country. We’ve shown in by-election gains across the country that former Conservative voters are backing Labour. Support from right across the country is the most powerful message of all.
We have the determination and intention that in five years’ time we will be able to say ‘You are truly better off, your public services are working properly and the economy is working for everyone.’
Please vote Labour this Thursday 4 July.
Thank you,
Elizabeth McWilliams
