Thanks for voting Labour in the general election

Thank you to everyone who voted Labour in the recent general election. The polls were showing the constituency as a three-way marginal until nearly election day.

Labour’s campaign enjoyed much enthusiasm for our candidate Elizabeth McWilliams with a record number of ‘Vote Labour’ posters seen across the whole constituency and an increase in Labour’s share of the vote.

The nation voted decisively for change. For a Labour government: for national renewal and for the politics of public service.

Labour’s work of change started at once to rebuild Britain with wealth created in every community. To put our NHS back on its feet and for fair treatment at work. To secure our borders and have safer streets. To create clean British power and cut energy bills for good.

There are now three Labour MPs, 10 County Councillors and the Metro Mayor here in Cambridgeshire. Labour came a close second in votes to the Tories across our historic county at the PCC and general elections!

In the end on this occasion, Ely & East Cambridgeshire voters opted for the more established Lib Dem candidate.

We’ll continue to campaign on the issues that matter and report on the good that Labour does in power.
