LIB DEMS TRY TO GET AWAY WITH MISLEADING AND INCORRECT LEAFLETS-
Labour Agent speaks out after being snubbed when trying to correct errors.
David Jermy, Labour's election agent for Ely & East Cambridgeshire, explains:
“When I saw a recent leaflet from the Lib Dems that contained incorrect information, I knew it needed to be put right. I wrote to the Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson, Charlotte Cane, asking for a correction and apology.
“I sent my letter as a signed-for delivery because I wanted to be sure it had arrived. The Royal Mail tracker site shows that the letter has not been accepted at Charlotte Cane's address.
“The leaflet contained a graph of the 2019 result in South East Cambridgeshire constituency. This will be abolished at the next General Election. It is misleading to put this forward as any kind of prediction as to how the vote might go four years later in the new seat of Ely & East Cambridgeshire. The old and new seats do overlap to an extent, but they are significant boundary changes.
“Worse still, the graph incorrectly slashed Labour’s vote by 25%.
“After about a week of no response and as I happened to be in the area, I called on Ms Cane and spoke to her briefly. She promised to read the letter, a copy of which I'd handed to her, and to share it with her agent. I still have not had a response.
“I’m disappointed that the Lib Dems appear to be ignoring my reasonable request. Of course, political parties put their own slant on an issue or policy but they cannot base those views on inaccurate information.
“I’m still hopeful that this issue can be resolved long before we get into the flurry of a full election campaign.”
